The Australian Media and Communications Authority has opened three related consultations.
- A review of the radiocommunications prohibitions and exemptions framework. In an environment of rapid technological change, it is timely to consider the scope and operation of these regulatory instruments.
- A plan to exempt police from offences related to drone jamming devices. Technologies that interfere with drone signals can breach the Radiocommunications Act 1992. We want to help police in their efforts to ensure public safety.
- A proposal to change the rules regarding radionavigation-satellite service (RNSS) repeater devices. This will allow road operators to conduct trials to provide GPS signals in tunnels.
ACMA is inviting submissions on these consultations by COB, Monday 13 July 2020.
