The Australian Communications and Media Authority has released its six-month progress report for the Five-year spectrum outlook 2020–24 (FYSO), covering 1 July 2020 to 31 December 2020.
ACMA says the report shows it is largely on track to deliver its 2020–21 work program.
According to a statement, “We have also released the update to the 2020–21 annual work program in the FYSO. This update sets out our upcoming activities for implementing changes to spectrum management arrangements, following the passage of the Radiocommunications Legislation Amendment (Reform and Modernisation) Act 2020 in December 2020. The Act will come into force on 17 June 2021 to give users of spectrum sufficient time to adjust to the new regulatory framework.
“These changes to the Radiocommunications Act 1992 will streamline spectrum management by adding flexibility to the licensing framework. This will allow speedier release of spectrum and more certainty around licence conditions, licence duration and renewal terms. The amendments will also introduce a more graduated set of compliance and enforcement powers, and equipment rules that will regulate devices across modern supply chains.”
