The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) has welcomed a regulatory change allowing regional MPs to reach constituents in their electorate via community radio.
According to the Association, “This is great news for our regional stations, with MPs now able to use their office expenses to purchase sponsorship on their local stations.
“Should this government support measure be utilised, it will contribute to mitigating the financial impact that COVID-19, drought and the recent bushfires has had on many of our regional stations. The CBAA thanks Member for Mayo, Rebekha Sharkie MP, for pursuing this change with the federal government.
“Our team has contacted all regional MPs and stations to advise them of this opportunity, and we encourage interested stations to reach out to the offices of local MPs to discuss what paid sponsorship opportunities are available.”
For those stations needing ideas and tips for communicating with politicians or securing political sponsorship, the CBAA has produced a Political Engagement Toolkit.
