Sony has announced the finalists of the inaugural Sony Film Festival. Commencing in 2021, the Sony Film Festival celebrates the best short-form filmmaking shot on Sony cameras across Australia and New Zealand. The Festival aims to encourage filmmakers at all levels, from passionate amateurs to industry veterans, by showcasing the exceptional talent and abilities of cinematographers and filmmakers who are using the Sony system to capture their stories.
After receiving over 130 entries, our judges, Peter James, ACS, ASC (Non-fiction category), Wayne Ringrow, Vice President – Australian Artists (Music category) and internationally renowned director Will Gluck (Fiction category) narrowed it down to 15 films.
Finalists in the Fiction category include: While the Cat’s Away …; Bama; The Suspect; Driup; and A Theory of Incompleteness.
Finalists in the Non-Fiction category include: Antarctic Waters; Pigman; The Fate of Giants; Women Take on Nepal; and Did I Choose My Trauma?
Music Video finalists include: Juice & Lemonade; Lastlings; A Storms Clarity; Dearest Madeline; and Land.

Winners of the 2021 Sony Film Festival will be announced during the Awards Night taking place on Sony’s YouTube channel via live-stream on Wednesday September 29th at 7:00PM AEDT. The awards will be hosted by esteemed Australian film industry veteran, Kriv Stenders.
