Australian cinema chain HOYTS has expanded its immersive offering by installing over 500 seats (17 screens) with D-BOX recliners which move and vibrate in sync with the movie action.
Six HOYTS cinemas in Australia have already been fitted with the technology.
HOYTS’ Director of Property and Business, Tyrone Dodds, said this state-of-the-art technology makes the movie experience incredibly captivating.
“D-BOX technology was developed in Canada, and HOYTS is proud to be the only cinema operator in Australia where you can experience it,” he said. “We’ve built it into our reclining chairs to bring the movies to life without sacrificing comfort. The technology incorporates more than 65,000 movements perfectly synchronised with the movie action.
“When you combine it with our huge Xtremescreens and, where possible, 3D-enhanced movies, it’s a surreal movie experience like no other.
“One of our favourite features of D-BOX is the ability for guests to manage the intensity of their own experience with a personal control system.”
D-BOX technology is particularly popular with action, horror, and family movies, like the new Fast X and Spiderman Across the Spider-Verse, providing an immersive cinema experience where you feel part of the on-screen action.
D-BOX can already be experienced at HOYTS Entertainment Quarter, Erina, Highpoint, Karrinyup, Northland, and Wetherill Park.
Among the rollout are 14 additional HOYTS locations, with nine sites already open:
- HOYTS Eastland
- HOYTS Frankston
- HOYTS Chatswood Westfield
- HOYTS Greensborough
- HOYTS Blacktown
- HOYTS Belconnen
- HOYTS Green Hills
- HOYTS Stafford
- HOYTS Tea Tree Plaza
By the end of June, the remaining cinemas will have opened to guests and movie goers will be able to enjoy D-BOX at:
- HOYTS Eastgardens
- HOYTS Tweed Heads
- HOYTS Sunnybank
- HOYTS Norwood
- HOYTS Carousel
“This D-BOX rollout is a significant development that brings this immersive technology to more movie lovers across our HOYTS circuit,” Tyrone said. “This will take the total number of DBOX screens to 23 across 20 locations.
“We strive to be market leaders in providing the best entertainment experience for our guests, and this D-BOX rollout stands true to providing exactly that.”
The rollout comes just in time for a slate of upcoming movies made for D-BOX including Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Elemental, The Flash and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
