A foreign person with company interests of 2.5 percent or more (a foreign stakeholder) in an Australian media company is required to notify the ACMA of that interest.
Persons who were foreign stakeholders when the provisions came into force on the 1st of September 2018 must notify the ACMA by the 28th of February 2019.
Notifications are also required at the end of each financial year, and within 30 days of a foreign person acquiring, or ceasing to hold, company interests of 2.5 per cent or more in an Australian media company. Notifications may be submitted by foreign persons or persons acting on their behalf.
Visit the ACMA website for more information about reporting requirements for foreign media owners, or to lodge a notification.
