The ACMA has approved around $9 million in grant funding to 62 applicants to the Regional Grant Opportunity of the Regional and Small Publishers Innovation Fund.
Funding has been awarded to regional applicants from each state and territory. Of the 62 successful applicants, 24 are from Victoria, 18 from NSW, 12 from Queensland and the remaining eight from Tasmania (3), South Australia (2), and one each from Western Australia, ACT and the Northern Territory.
In arriving at its decision, the ACMA received advice on the business cases of eligible applications. This advice was provided by the Advisory Committee appointed by the Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, on the 1st of July, 2019.
The Advisory Committee comprised Megan Brownlow as Chair (previously partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers), John Angilley (previously CFO, Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal), Louisa Graham (CEO, Walkley Foundation), Michael Malone (Chairman, Superloop) and Susan Skelly (Adjudication Panel Member, Australian Press Council).
The ACMA received 113 applications for the Regional Grant Opportunity and, after assessment against the eligibility criteria, 100 were found to be eligible and progressed to the next stage for merit assessment.
The ACMA has notified successful and unsuccessful applicants of the results and will commence negotiations on grant agreements. Once grant agreements have been signed, details of successful applicants will be made available on GrantConnect.
