Victoria Announces Record Investment for Screen Industry

With cameras stratiing to roll again in Melbourne, the Victorian Government has announced a major financial boost for the Victorian screen industry.

This record investment of AUD$33.8 million (US$24.5m) in Victorian screen productions and programs helps to attract more international and interstate screen projects through a new Victorian Screen Incentive. The funding will also deliver increased investment for local content development, skills and screen productions including digital games.

The Victorian Screen Incentive will be administered by state government screen agency Film Victoria and will target the attraction of physical productions, visual effects, animation, post-production and, for the first time, digital games projects to be made in Victoria which is Australia’s centre for creativity and digital innovation.

The Victorian Screen Incentive provides a grant of up to 10 per cent on qualifying production expenditure in Victoria. It also sees the lowering of the post-production threshold which will attract more Australian projects to undertake post-production in Victoria.

“The Victorian Screen Incentive will capture an increased share of the significant global growth that the screened entertainment industry is experiencing,” said Film Victoria’s Chief Executive Officer, Caroline Pitcher.
