Frame.io, the cloud-based collaboration platform, has announced the beta release of its enhanced workflow for photography, featuring a seamless integration with Adobe Lightroom. This new functionality is designed to provide photographers with a faster and more efficient route from image capture to final completion.
In 2022, the company expanded its offering to include photography workflows, beginning with Camera to Cloud integrations in Fujifilm’s X-H2 and X-H2s cameras. Frame.io has continued to develop its tools for photographers, introducing optimised photo review and approval features that streamline the creative process.
“Our goal is to further enhance the efficiency of photography workflows,” said JJ Powell, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Frame.io. “The release of Frame.io Version 4 beta this year introduces customisable metadata for better organisation and a revamped sharing experience for improved client deliveries.”
With over 11 native camera integrations for photography, including the Fujifilm X100VI and a new partnership with Panasonic LUMIX, Frame.io is rapidly expanding its ecosystem. The latest beta release takes this a step further by allowing users to send photos from their camera to Frame.io and directly into Adobe Lightroom.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to introduce this new capability,” Powell continued. “It allows photographers to connect their camera to Frame.io, send their images directly to Lightroom, and immediately begin editing, without the need for tethers or removing camera cards.”
The streamlined process is designed to save time and enhance the creative flow for photographers.
“What we’ve learned from our customers using Camera to Cloud for photography is that every moment counts,” Powell explained. “Whether it’s capturing key moments during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, at world tours for artists like Teddy Swims, or during red carpet events, keeping audiences engaged in real time is crucial. The ability to quickly edit and deliver photos on social media minutes after they happen is invaluable.”
Connecting a Camera to Cloud-enabled device to a Frame.io project is straightforward. Once connected, photographers or editors simply click “Connect to Lightroom” within the project and log in with their Adobe ID. The workflow allows photographers to send all files uploaded via Camera to Cloud into Lightroom automatically, or they can manually select specific images to send for editing. Once edited, the images can be re-uploaded to Frame.io for delivery or distribution.
“With this new workflow, photographers no longer need to stop what they’re doing to offload, organise, and send files,” Powell said. “It allows them to stay focused on their event or shoot, while streamlining the entire process.”
In addition to its time-saving benefits, the new workflow enhances the safety and security of images. “By sending files directly to the cloud, photographers can have peace of mind knowing their images are automatically backed up, without the risk of losing valuable content due to hardware failure,” Powell added.
The integration is also ideal for high-pressure scenarios such as wedding photography.
“The wedding only happens once,” Powell noted. “The ability to quickly upload, edit, and share images in real time provides additional reassurance and allows photographers to deliver a more engaging experience for the wedding party and guests.”
The Frame.io to Lightroom connection, now available in beta, requires a Camera to Cloud-enabled camera from Fujifilm or Panasonic LUMIX, as well as a Frame.io Version 4 beta account. Additional functionality will be added to the integration in future updates as Frame.io continues to expand its services to photographers and videographers.
