Nikon has announced the release of the COOLPIX P1100, a compact digital camera featuring 125× optical super-telephoto zoom and superior operability for recording high-quality images.
The COOLPIX P1100 is equipped with a 125× optical zoom lens that covers an extraordinary range of focal lengths, starting at the wide-angle 24mm equivalent and extending to the super-telephoto 3000mm equivalent (up to 250× zoom is possible with Dynamic Fine Zoom enabled). As the successor to the COOLPIX P1000 (released in September 2018), this model offers further improvements in usability. The AF-area mode in Bird-watching mode can now be selected, and the same functions that can be assigned to the camera’s Fn button can now be assigned to the Fn1/Fn2 buttons on the ML-L7 Remote Control (released in September 2018).
Just like the COOLPIX P1000, the EXPEED image processing system and high-power zoom NIKKOR lens deliver outstanding rendering capabilities, enabling the capture of beautiful images even with super-telephoto shooting. Dual Detect Optical VR, which achieves a level of vibration reduction equivalent to 4.0-stops, effectively suppresses camera shake during handheld shooting. The COOLPIX P1100 makes it easier to explore the world of super-telephoto photography, capturing dynamic images of subjects such as birds and celestial bodies. The camera also supports 4K UHD/30p and superlapse movie recording, with superior operability ensuring ease of use and a wide range of accessories to facilitate diverse imaging expression.

The COOLPIX P1100 is equipped with a 125× optical zoom NIKKOR lens, covering wide-angle 24mm to super-telephoto 3000mm focal lengths. The adoption of super ED and ED glass elements provides superior chromatic aberration compensation, delivering outstanding rendering capabilities across the entire zoom range. Dual Detect Optical VR compensates for camera shake, enabling the capture of sharp and clear images of distant subjects such as birds and celestial bodies.
2. Shooting Functions for Diverse Imaging Expression
Bird-watching and Moon modes are now independent of scene modes and can be accessed directly via the mode dial. The AF-area mode in Bird-watching mode can now be selected from [Centre (spot)], [Centre (normal)], or [Centre (wide)], allowing greater flexibility in framing and more precise focusing. A [Fireworks] option has also been added to the [Multiple exp. Lighten] scene mode, enabling users to capture impressive, clear fireworks scenes without blown-out highlights.
3. Support for 4K UHD/30p Movie Recording
The COOLPIX P1100 supports high-definition 4K UHD/30p movie recording, capturing stunning footage even at the super-telephoto 3000mm-equivalent focal length. Frames from 4K UHD recordings can also be saved as still images, allowing users to preserve key moments that cannot be captured through continuous burst photography.
4. Superior Operability for More Flexible Super-Telephoto Shooting
Despite its super-telephoto capabilities, the COOLPIX P1100 weighs approximately 1,410g, making handheld super-telephoto shooting easier compared to DSLR and mirrorless camera systems. The deep grip ensures stable shooting, while the focus-mode selector allows changes to focus modes even after focus acquisition. Additionally, a control ring enables quick adjustments to settings such as white balance and manual focus.
5. Support for a Comprehensive Range of Accessories
The COOLPIX P1100 is equipped with an accessory shoe and terminal for various accessories, including Speedlights and a dot sight for easier composition at telephoto focal lengths. The optional ML-L7 Remote Control can be connected via Bluetooth, allowing users to assign camera functions to its Fn1/Fn2 buttons. This enhances remote operation while minimising camera shake when shooting at telephoto focal lengths.
