AWS Elemental Introduces Link for Real-Time Video Transport

AWS Elemental Link is a device that connects a live video source, like a camera or video production equipment, to AWS Elemental MediaLive. Link offers a configuration-free, cost-efficient way to securely and reliably transfer video to MediaLive for delivery to viewers. To use the device, you simply connect it to power, Ethernet, and a video source. Users can control and monitor your AWS Elemental Link device from anywhere they have access to the AWS Management Console. AWS Elemental Link improves the quality and reliability of your live video streams while reducing the cost and complexity of equipment that you need to operate on-premises.

To use the device, you simply connect it to power, Ethernet, and a video source and content is sent to with AWS Elemental MediaLive for delivery to viewers across a range of supported device types in minutes. AWS Elemental Link is shipped fully configured to your AWS Account.

The size of a Kleenex box, the plug-and-go AWS Elemental Link device weighs less than a pound, and is controlled and monitored using the AWS Console.

AWS Elemental Link supports multiple applications in live video environments, such as broadcast studios, news facilities, sports and entertainment event venues, mobile production trucks, houses of worship, educational institutions and corporate and government video setups.

AWS Elemental Link is a compact, lightweight device, which makes it easy and cost-effective to transport live video in real time from on-premises cameras and other production equipment to the cloud for processing and delivery to televisions and connected devices.

Alternative approaches to contributing high-quality video into the cloud often require a more complex, timely and costly setup. Customers have to set up their encoders, manually connect them to their AWS account and configure the network to ensure they can securely stream content from their computers across the internet to AWS. They also have to ensure enough bandwidth is available, and monitor the signal quality with custom on-site monitoring and remote solutions. Additionally, installation, management, and troubleshooting of the on-premises hardware often requires on location expertise.

AWS Elemental Link streamlines the process from setup to configuration and operation. Users simply power up the device, connect it to an HD-SDI or HDMI input source and their IP network, access their video on the AWS Console for processing with AWS Elemental MediaLive and stream content to viewers.

AWS Elemental MediaLive encodes the live video into different streams (resolutions and bitrates) and users can then opt to use AWS Elemental MediaPackage to format the streams for playback on a range of devices; AWS Elemental MediaStore as a media-optimized storage and
origination service; and Amazon CloudFront to distribute the live streams to devices for playback.

Since AWS Elemental Link is automatically tied to customers’ AWS accounts, there is no configuration required. Controlled via the AWS Management Console, AWS Elemental Link lets customers centralize the management and control of a distributed fleet of geographically distributed encoders.
