Multicast is an effective method for one-to-many communication over an IP network, for example, in the case of IPTV when the user changes from one TV channel to another. Multicast also taps on network infrastructure efficiently by requiring the source to send a packet only once, even if delivery is to many receivers. In addition, the Multicast network reduces strain on network infrastructure and predictable bandwidth requirements. By using User Datagram Protocol (UDP) in ETX, Etere users can set the stream PID for synchronising the video and audio packets.
