Austria-based Big Blue Marble has announced that its Nakolos platform is now the world’s first complete 5G Broadcast solution to fully implement the entire feature set of 3GPP Release 19.
This is a significant step forward that makes commercial 5G Broadcast deployments faster, more cost-effective, more intelligent and more practical than ever before.
Why Release 19 Is a Major Milestone
3GPP Release 19, finalised in late 2025, is the second major wave of 5G-Advanced and introduces powerful new capabilities specifically designed to address the practical challenges of deploying broadcast technology.
Key new capabilities include:
- Time Frequency Interleaving (TFI) – Improves signal robustness in mobile environments while allowing operators to reuse existing transmission sites, reducing the need for new hardware.
- CAS-Muting – Enables broadcasters to repurpose existing DVB-T2 infrastructure for 5G Broadcast deployments, significantly reducing deployment costs.
- New Frequency Bands B112 and B113 – B112 is focused on the United States market, while B113 supports Europe and global deployments, enabling smoother roll-outs in key regions.
- Full interoperability with Release 19-compatible transmitters from TRedess and SYES, as well as the new Bitstem 5GR receiver platform.
- Fe-mbms – Delivering 60–70 per cent increased throughput compared with e-mbms.
Thanks to this growing ecosystem, broadcasters and network operators can now test and deploy production-grade 5G Broadcast networks rather than relying solely on proof-of-concept demonstrations.
5G Broadcast Momentum Continues to Build
The announcement comes as commercial momentum for 5G Broadcast accelerates across the United States and Europe. Industry interest continues to grow around applications including live sports, breaking news coverage and emergency alerting services that remain operational when traditional cellular networks become congested or unavailable.
