IABM and SMPTE Joint Event – What does the second half of 2020 hold for our industry?
June 25, 2020 @ 2:00 am - 3:00 am
The two leading industry organizations, IABM and SMPTE, have joined together for an informative and entertaining session where we take a look at what the rest of 2020 might hold for the broadcast and media industry. As well as hearing from our interactive speaking sessions, you can also get involved through live polls that will be running. And as is only fitting in our great industry, we’ve got some entertainment lined up too!
The here and now
We’ve moved into a virtual world of necessity. As the world gradually unlocks, how much of it will stick, and what are potential gains and downsides? SMPTE Executive Director, Barbara Lange, and IABM CEO, Peter White kick things off in conversation – informing their observations with up-to-the-minute cross-industry research.
Will we all be WFH from now on?
Next, Bob Eicholz of Technicolor sits down with IABM CTO, Stan Moote, for a fireside chat. Technicolor deployed 4000 to work from home in just 3 weeks at the beginning of the pandemic. Bob will share whether remote working could ultimately largely replace on-site. What are the downsides to WFH? And what about those vital personal interactions?
Into the cloud at speed
When the COVID lockdown happened, leading eSports production house Next Generation Esports (NGE) moved its entire operation into the cloud at breakneck speed – switching, graphics, encoding, gameplay, replay – the whole nine yards of professional production. Stan Moote talks to Todd Roth of NGE about how this was achieved and what challenges had to be overcome. For those of us not familiar with the complexities and scale of eSports, this is a real eye opener!
Play on…
The hills are alive – even in lockdown! The SMPTE band has got together remotely (!) to bring us some inspiring music to send us all off whistling while we virtually work.
