Australians have an ever increasing amount of audio choices available to them as content, platform and device options grow. In 2019, Australians spent nearly 3.5 hours or one quarter of the waking day listening to audio, demonstrating the important role that it plays in keeping audiences entertained, informed, connected and energised throughout the day.
The annual Share of Audio study, now in its fifth year, is one of the most respected reports into the Australian audio landscape. Conducted by global research provider GfK, the study looks at time spent listening to broadcast radio, music streaming services including Spotify and Apple Music, podcasts, owned music and other audio sources. The report provides a snapshot of each platform’s share of listening and reach, as well as deeper insights into audience behaviour by age, location and daypart. A closer look at the commercial audio environment again in 2020 will assist media buyers with making informed decisions about what audio advertising is most suitable for their media mix.
