FoMaSystems SkyperCam – New Aerial Cinematography Platform

FoMaSystems has announced SkyperCam, a new aerial cinematography platform combining the Air Création microlight aircraft with FoMa Antares professional camera stabilisation.

Developed in collaboration with Air Création and aerial cinematography specialist NoGravity Films, SkyperCam offers productions an alternative to conventional helicopter filming with significantly lower operating costs, reduced noise and a smaller environmental footprint. Its adaptable flight characteristics bring another dimension to the platform, supporting controlled low-speed and low-altitude flight as well as faster dynamic tracking.

At the centre of the camera system is the same FoMa Antares used across professional cinema and broadcast – the most flexible three-axis stabilised remote head on the market. Its unique open-ring design accommodates a wide range of camera and lens configurations without requiring traditional counterweights, allowing more of the aircraft’s available payload to be dedicated to the camera package itself.

For aerial operation, High Dynamic Mode optimises FoMa Antares for the increased forces encountered during dynamic flight, maintaining precise, stable camera movement as the aircraft transitions between different speeds, attitudes and types of shots.

An Aircraft Built Around the Shot

Rather than adapting a conventional aircraft solely to carry a camera, SkyperCam takes advantage of the inherent flexibility of the microlight.

Different Air Création wing configurations can be selected according to the sequence, while adjustable wing geometry gives the pilot further control over the aircraft’s behaviour in flight. This allows the aircraft itself to become part of the creative approach to a shot – from landscapes and low-altitude perspectives to vehicle tracking and faster-moving subjects.

Short-field capability expands where the system can operate, reducing dependence on conventional airport infrastructure and allowing the aerial unit to be positioned closer to production. The aircraft can also be configured with conventional landing gear or floats for operation from land or water.

Its reduced acoustic footprint provides an additional advantage where the presence of the aircraft matters. For natural history and documentary work, it can reduce disturbance to wildlife and the surrounding environment; for live events, sports and narrative production, it reduces the impact of the aerial unit on the activity below.

Developed Through Real-World Aerial Filmmaking

The concept behind SkyperCam originated with filmmaker and pilot Jason Barrault, whose search for a more efficient approach to professional aerial cinematography led to years of practical filming, testing and refinement through NoGravity Films.

That development ultimately brought together three areas of expertise: Air Création in microlight aircraft design and manufacturing, NoGravity Films in aerial filmmaking and operation, and FoMaSystems in professional camera stabilisation and integration.

The platform is already proven in professional production. SkyperCam, equipped with FoMa Antares, was chosen to replace traditional helicopter filming for Des Racines & des Ailes (Roots and Wings), the long-running France 3 documentary series known for its coverage of France’s cultural, architectural and natural heritage. The platform provides the aerial imagery central to the programme while offering lower operating costs, reduced noise and environmental impact, and greater operational flexibility.

Building the SkyperCam Network

The launch at IBC marks the next stage of the project: developing SkyperCam from a proven aerial filmmaking concept into an internationally managed network.

The objective is to establish equipped aircraft with experienced pilots across key production markets, bringing aerial camera capability closer to where it is needed and making it practical for a wider range of productions.

SkyperCam is making its international launch at IBC2026 in Amsterdam.

Productions interested in using SkyperCam, as well as experienced pilots interested in joining the network, are invited to meet the team at IBC or contact FoMaSystems.
