CalDigit has announced its first Thunderbolt 4/USB4 specific product, the Element Hub. According to the company, the Element Hub is eight times more powerful than a USB-C 5Gb/s hub, and four times more powerful than a 10Gb/s USB-C hub, and offers 40Gb/s performance. The Element Hub is not only Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 compatible, it is also Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C (USB 3.2, 3.1) compatible.
A major feature of Thunderbolt 4 is the ability to have up to four Thunderbolt ports on hubs or docks. When connected to a Thunderbolt or USB4 computer, the spare Thunderbolt ports on the Element Hub can be used to connect Thunderbolt, USB4 or USB-C (3.2,3.1) devices. When connected to a USB-C host computer, the Thunderbolt ports can be used to connect USB-C (3.2,3.1) devices.
When connected to a Thunderbolt or USB4 host computer, the spare Thunderbolt 4/USB4 ports can be used to connect a single monitor up to 8K resolution, and for users looking to add dual displays, the Element Hub supports up to two 4K 60Hz monitors.
The four USB-A ports on the Element Hub all offer 10Gb/s performance for connecting fast USB accessories to the device. If users need to add USB-C accessories, they can connect them to the Thunderbolt ports on the back of the device.
The Element Hub provides up to 60W laptop charging, and when not connected to a computer the device’s eight ports can be used to offline charge USB-C and and USB-A accessories.
The Element Hub will be shipping in Asia and Australia from March 2021.
