Blackmagic Design Announces New Blackmagic Media Dock Ultra

Blackmagic Design has announced Blackmagic Media Dock Ultra, a new high-performance dock for Blackmagic Media Modules with two fully independent 100G ethernet ports. It also features SDI and HDMI status monitoring and Blackmagic Cloud sync, allowing customers to use Blackmagic Media Modules as extremely high-performance removable storage. Blackmagic Media Dock Ultra will be available in June from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide for US$2,995.

The Blackmagic Media Dock Ultra will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2026 booth N2502.

The Blackmagic Media Dock models use the same high-speed media modules as Blackmagic URSA Cine cameras, giving customers high-performance storage that can be instantly removed. This is ideal for editing media from URSA Cine cameras directly from the modules without copying files. It is also a perfect solution for recording from the HyperDeck ISO Recorder 100G, as users can instantly unplug and take the media module with them as soon as a live production ends. There are two models available, one with four 10G Ethernet connections and another with two separate 100G ethernet connections. Both models also sync to Blackmagic Cloud.

Blackmagic Media Docks feature a rack-mount design holding up to three Blackmagic Media Modules for sharing across a network, using the same modules as URSA Cine cameras. Each module contains four M.2 flash memory cards in RAID 0, making them extremely fast. The design includes illuminated LED rings around each slot to show read and write activity. The Media Dock Ultra model offers a more powerful design with faster network speeds, front-to-back cooling and multiple fans for redundancy and quiet operation. All models also include dual redundant power supplies.

Creative teams can share a single local cache of media uploaded to the Blackmagic Cloud for a true global workflow. This improves efficiency as files are instantly available without needing to be downloaded from the internet. It also reduces storage requirements on individual computers, as the Media Dock acts as a central repository accessible across the local network. Multiple Media Docks can be synchronised across different geographic locations, allowing global collaboration with local access speeds.

Blackmagic Media Dock enables high-end digital film DIT carts and post-production workflows. Multiple DaVinci Resolve workstations can access recorded files instantly on set without file copying, allowing immediate on-set grading. This is particularly effective when used with URSA Cine cameras, which record to Blackmagic Media Modules. Media can also be synchronised to Blackmagic Cloud for collaboration with off-site colourists and editors.

The HDMI and SDI monitoring outputs provide a live status overview. By connecting a monitor, users can view a graphical storage map showing total capacity, read and write activity and connected users. Additional graphs display data transfer rates on Ethernet connections, while the main indicator shows overall storage usage. Blackmagic Cloud sync status is also displayed.

One of the key advantages of Blackmagic Media Dock is its private storage model. There are no subscription fees, monthly licences or usage tracking. Users do not need to rely on cloud-based services, as a free software utility for Mac and Windows is included. This allows operation on a private network, even without internet connectivity.

With 100G Ethernet ports, the Blackmagic Media Dock Ultra is designed to work seamlessly with HyperDeck ISO Recorder 100G for live production. This combination enables recording of eight cameras simultaneously in high-quality ProRes. Users can edit programming or perform live action replay using DaVinci Resolve, even while recording is in progress. One 100G port connects to the HyperDeck, while the other connects to a network switch and editing systems.

DaVinci Resolve includes advanced live action replay features. When combined with Blackmagic Media Dock Ultra, it enables integration of HyperDeck recorders, DaVinci workstations and remote cameras into a powerful replay system. The multi-source viewer allows visual browsing of clips with matching timecode in a multi-view, making it ideal for real-time camera feeds. Blackmagic Media Dock Ultra is optimised for these workflows.

“Sometimes you need to be able to walk away with the storage, and you do not have time to wait after a job is completed,” said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. “The Media Dock Ultra solves that problem, as after a job you can power down and unplug the storage module. It is ideal for broadcast trucks. It is incredibly high performance, specifically designed for film and television, and will be a powerful storage solution for live production and replay.”
