ABC Board Extends Managing Director’s Term

Following the announcement that ABC Chair Ita Buttrose will not seek a second term and to end speculation about the tenure of ABC Managing Director David Anderson, the ABC Board is pleased to confirm that David Anderson has been reappointed for a further five years effective 1 July 2023.

ABC Managing Director David Anderson has spent more than 30 years in the broadcast television and media industry. He joined the ABC in 1989 and became responsible for commissioning programs across all genres.

He has played a pivotal role in leading the ABC’s transition from a broadcaster into a modern digital media organisation. As Director of Strategy & Planning, he led the strategy to deliver more of the ABC’s funding on content, products and services for audiences.

During his tenure as Director of Digital Network, he identified new ways to engage audiences online by creating personalised and connected digital services.

Prior to his appointment as Managing Director in May 2019, He held the position of Director Entertainment & Specialist, a broad portfolio which spans the ABC’s broadcast television networks, including on-demand products and services and all associated websites and apps, along with all ABC radio music networks, podcasts and specialist radio content.

He was also a board member of Freeview Australia until June 2020.
