The Board of RNZ has appointed Jason Winstanley as the organisation’s next chief executive.
Jason will take up the role in 2027. Further details on his start date and transitional arrangements will be confirmed in due course.
Jason joins RNZ from NZME, where he is currently Chief Audio Officer, leading NZME’s radio and digital audio strategy.
Over a radio career spanning more than 25 years, Jason has held a range of senior content roles, including Head of Talk at Newstalk ZB, Assistant Content Director at ZM, and Content Director of The Hits.
RNZ Board Chair Brent Impey said Jason stood out in a very strong field for the chief executive role.
“Jason combines a deep understanding of radio audiences with proven experience leading teams and delivering results in a fast-changing media environment,” Brent Impey said. “He brings energy, ideas and a real passion for audio, while also understanding the importance of strong public service media and the trust audiences place in RNZ.”
Impey said the Board is pleased to welcome one of the country’s most recognised audio leaders to RNZ.
