Boris FX Mocha Pro, the 2D/3D planar tracking and masking toolkit, has launched its 2026.5 release. New AI-driven point tracking changes how VFX artists and compositors approach intricate organic mesh tracking and drifting-track clean-ups.
The update also delivers more detailed automated mattes, new export options to better support studio pipelines, and Windows ARM support for both the Adobe plugin and standalone application.
“With this release, Point Track ML’s AI tracking joins forces with Mocha’s award-winning planar and PowerMesh trackers. This combination lets artists handle the toughest organic shots while retaining the precise control they need to deliver their highest-quality work,” said John-Paul Smith, CEO of Imagineer Systems.
“Furthermore, by working closely with our partners at Adobe and Microsoft, we’ve brought Mocha to Windows on ARM with full native performance on the newest hardware.”
Effortless Tracking
Mocha Pro’s PowerMesh tracking, known for capturing subtle warping in surfaces such as skin and cloth, now adds Point Track ML.
The new tracking mode uses advanced AI to analyse tracks across a sequence. Unlike traditional point or planar trackers, which rely on frame-based analysis, Point Track ML is trained to ignore occlusions, lighting changes and shadows, allowing artists to tackle challenging tasks such as mesh tracking on creased clothing or where hands move across the tracked surface.
Point Track ML can also track surfaces that turn away from and back towards the camera, behaviour that was previously impossible even with planar tracking.
Additional workflow enhancements include a Refine Mode for higher-resolution analysis, editable meshes when required, and the ability to convert PowerMesh tracks back to planar tracking data.
The AdjustTrack module now also includes Point Track ML. This final-step correction tool helps artists clean up difficult tracks affected by motion blur, fast movement, changing reference points or off-screen objects.
Previously, users had to manually correct every adjustment point. Now, Auto Nudge with Point Track ML automatically detects drifting points and corrects them, helping surface tracks remain locked in place.
Artists requiring greater control can further refine nudge positions using per-point adjustments, preview high-resolution analysis and use support grids to add extra points for improved tracking accuracy.
Advanced AI Masking
Mocha Pro’s AI-driven masking tools have also been enhanced to further automate matte creation and refinement.
Object Brush, powered by Mask ML, now creates finer edge details using a new Auto ROI (Region of Interest) tool. Artists can also draw custom ROI areas to isolate subjects more precisely.
Refine Matte ML now instantly removes background matte artefacts and sparkles with the addition of Auto ROI. Matte Assist ML introduces a new Search Area tool that targets small, difficult areas with close-contour generation and keyframeable controls for improved temporal precision.
These enhancements significantly reduce the time required for complex, high-end VFX tasks.
Streamlined Workflows
Multiple workflow improvements provide a smoother experience across a variety of VFX pipelines.
New export capabilities include options to export rendered shapes to RGBA with source footage or rendered clips, export separate layer mattes to multi-layer EXR files, separate layers by colour channel, and disable layer opacity keyframes on matte data when exporting to After Effects, Fusion and Flame.
The Curve Editor now allows users to view and modify PowerMesh keyframes per vertex, enabling faster corrections on mesh-based tracking tasks.
Additional updates include Windows ARM support for Adobe plugins and standalone versions, as well as enhanced Python API support for PowerMesh and Matte Assist ML contour features.
Pricing
Mocha Pro is available as both a plugin and standalone application with monthly and annual subscriptions, upgrade and support plans, and perpetual licences.
Supported host applications include Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, Foundry Nuke, Blackmagic Fusion, Autodesk Flame and Vegas Pro.
Subscription pricing starts at US$48 per month or US$325 per year.
