Maxon has released its latest instalment of Cheap Tricks, the how-to series on recreating VFX looks from TV, movies, games and more! Today’s episode follows Action Movie Dad, aka Daniel ‘Hashi’ Hashimoto, as he instructs viewers on how to recreate the organic look of the Druun from ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ entirely within Adobe After Effects using Trapcode Form, Universe, and Supercomp.
For those who want to recreate a Druun natively in After Effects, Hashi shows how the fractal family of filters can combine with CC Sphere to create volumetric and chaotic smoke and slime – and a unique way to utilise the Essential Graphics panel for visual effects.

Anyone with a copy of After Effects can follow right along with Hashi as he uses 100 percent native filters to create a living smoke villain. But for those with Red Giant Complete and Universe, there are some bonus tricks to take the final result to the next level.
